Minetest minimap11/22/2023 ![]() ![]() Games are also easy to make and modify since a game is just a folder which contains the mods. ![]() You can create a game from scratch or use one of the community made games and change the gameplay as needed. The moding community is fairly active and most mods are released as open source so anyone can tweak them for a specific need. So you can take a sword mod and add in additional ones. There is a simple RPG game (called AdventureTest) but it is kind of old and not maintained anymore. There are 6 or so mods including one of my own that provide the core gameplay elements for RPGs (skills, quests, achievements, status effects, hudbars, npcs, and mobs). The biggest issue I have with Minetest is that it lacks polish. And I'm hoping to bundle and integrate them into an RPGCore modpack some time soon(tm). While a lot of this is because everyday users are making the content some is the fault of the engine. Specifically the gui is kind of hard to work with and not nearly as powerful as it should be. While you can make it look good with some creativity there is no support for some things. An example is the 3D character preview that the MC inventory has. Another example is that a HUD minimap is not really possible with the main minetest client (there are a fork or two that implement a minimap in c++. Unlike MC which has a depth and height limit but no horisontal limit and has multiple realms/worlds in a single game, The minetest game world is a perfect cube. I can't remember the exact dimensions but it is like 60*60*60 thousand nodes. Which is very large and provides plenty of space to play in. But you can't walk north forever and there are not multiple worlds to use. Voxel Area Maps are not implemented yet but they are planned.Manipulating the players orientation and collision box is not currently possible so you can make a player look like a mouse but he can't fit through a 1 block tunnel.a security camera can not be implemented) There is no way to show video of a remote area of the map.Users go around the lack of multiple worlds by placing each one at a different y axis. Of course it is open source so all these can be fixed with time and effort.Ĭylinder, sphere, dyson sphere, cube, and ring worlds ĭomtron wrote:I see that this category is pretty empty so I though I would post an alternative to Minecraft that is easy to mod and would be great for making an RP allowing you to easily make any props you might need. It is also free to play.Ĭottages mod source software is software whose basis code is obtainable for adjustment or improvement by anybody. So… where have I been? Where are my bases? The source code is the division of software that mainly computer users do not forever observe: it is the code computer programmers can influence to alter how a section of software-a series or submission works. The MineClone2 "map" is basically just a compass, it shows a picture of the local chunks but can't be resized. ![]() There's a couple cartography mods, but they seem to only make small maps for use in-game. There's a minetestmapper.py in the base game's distro, but it's python2, requires an obsolete version of PIL, 2to3 didn't fix it. ![]() minetestmapper -colors my-colors.txt -i "$worlddir/$mapname" -o "$mapname-$d.png" Worlddir="$HOME/Library/Application Support/minetest/worlds" Make a script, my-map.zsh (change mapname, worlddir to wherever yours are): #!/bin/zsh Grinds for half an hour, get a full white image, because all the MineClone2 nodes are unknown, so copied colors.txt to my-colors.txt, and add this to the end: I actually have libgd installed with MacPorts, gd2, but it wasn't found at first, adjusted my env vars and now: cmake. Repeat, half an hour… I still get 227 lines of unknown blocks, but the base map generates OK now, and looks good enough. I hate the sand color, and I dunno what the dark areas are. And I'll add more to my-colors.txt file and post that sometime.Īuthor mdhughes Posted on Categories MineTest, videogames Tags MineTest, videogames Leave a comment on Minetest Mapping MineTest skins OOH, what's that structure at the far west? I'm planning to skyrail far west, then go there and the unexplored village W-SW next time. So I hate the default adventurer skins, even if it's usually covered by armor and I use first-person camera. ![]()
